Tartan Day 2021

Tartan Day is celebrated on 6 April. It started in North America in the 80s and is an amazing celebration of everything Scottish.

Originating from the Highlands of Scotland, tartan has a history that dates back hundreds of years. The first mention of tartan in Scotland was in 1538. The Tartan Authority has done an amazing job to pull together the facts about the history of tartan. It is really worth exploring if you’re interested in Scottish heritage.

Finding your own tartan

If you’re interested in finding out about your tartan, you can use their tartan finder. If you’ve never looked up your tartan before, we think you’ll have a great time exploring it.

What we love most about tartan, is how far travelled it is today. No longer restricted to cloth, tartan’s versatility ranges from wrapping paper to carpets – and everything in between. We love seeing tartan on the catwalk and in the high street, which is why we launched our own tartans range.

Our Tartans Collection

We love tartan nearly as much as we love Harris Tweed, and we’ve got eight tartan products available at the moment.

The two tartans we chose for our collection are Baird Modern and Dress Stewart.

The Baird Modern tartan was first recorded in 1906. Legend has it that the Baird family obtained their lands in Scotland when one Baird rescued King William the Lion while he was being attacked by a wild boar.

The Dress Stewart tartan is a variant of the Stewart Royal design, which is often referred to as the Royal tartan. It was adopted by Queen Victoria for the use of the Royal Family.
